Sensors Positioning Guidelines
When placing sensors, it is essential to consider the chosen application, the coverage area, the field of view, and the lighting. Sensors should be positioned correctly whenever possible to achieve the best performance.
The goal of our technology is to turn a camera into a sensor and not to be used for image visualization like a security camera. The aim is to maximize the area of interest within the camera's field of view.
We gather in this installation guide the general remarks and those intended for each application. We start with global information and then go in detail by application.
Camera Placement
- Height: Mount the sensor at a height that provides a clear view of the parking spots / counting area without obstruction. Typically, a height of 5-8 meters is recommended. It provides a good balance between coverage and detail, allowing the camera to capture a clear view without being too high to miss important details. However, the height can vary depending on the installation environment.
- Angle: Place the camera at an angle that minimizes glare and keeps the entire parking spots or counting area within the field of view. A downward angle of 30-45 degrees is often effective.
- Location: Place the camera in a central location that allows it to cover the location of interest.
Field of View
Ensure the camera's field of view is wide enough to capture the entire parking spots / counting area but narrow enough to avoid including unnecessary areas like the sky or adjacent buildings. We are placing a sensor to detect or count objects and not for displaying a continuous stream of images.
Lighting/Weather Conditions
- Daylight: Position the camera to avoid direct sunlight, which can cause glare and reduce image quality.
- Nighttime: Ensure adequate lighting is available for nighttime monitoring. Consider installing additional lighting if necessary.
- Weather Protection: We can add a camera protection cap to protect against rain, snow, and other environmental conditions. It maintains the sensor's performance and longevity.
Installation Plan
The customer should prepare the setup in advance. This preparation involves creating a detailed schema of the parking lot or counting area. By mapping out the layout, the customer can gain a clear understanding of the space and identify the specific targets that need to be monitored. This preliminary planning is crucial for selecting the appropriate field of view for the camera, ensuring that all relevant areas are adequately covered during the installation day.
Preliminary planning ensures efficient coverage on installation day and will save you time and effort.
Post-Installation Task / Documentation
The installation process and configuration settings should be documented. It is necessary to report the height of the installation and take a picture of the installed device. This information should be communicated with viziosense's audit team as it will help us to fine-tune the sensor's performance
Other installation information can be found in the hardware installation guide.
